UK Lifestyle Consumer Research & Leads

Home/Consumer data

Consumer data, built from our own survey file

Selections drawn from records we collected ourselves — so the selection criteria are the questions we asked, and we can tell you when each answer was given.

The file

What is actually in it

Our consumer file is the accumulated output of the lifestyle survey. Every record on it is a named UK adult who answered a questionnaire on the telephone and agreed to be contacted by suppliers about the things they said they were interested in.

That makes it smaller than a compiled file and more useful than one. You are not selecting on a modelled estimate of whether somebody might own their home — you are selecting on the answer they gave when an agent asked them.

Records are re-surveyed on a rolling cycle. Anything that has not been confirmed inside the last 24 months is flagged as ageing and priced lower; anything past 36 months comes off the selectable file. Deceased, gone-away and opt-out flags are applied continuously, not at the point of sale.

Licensing

Data is licensed, not sold outright. A single-use licence covers one campaign across the channels you name. A twelve-month multi-use licence lets you work the records repeatedly. Either way the licence terms, the permitted channels and the seed records we plant to detect misuse are all set out in the contract.

Selections

How you can cut the file

Combine as many of these as you like. The tighter the combination, the smaller the count — we will run it and tell you the number before you order anything.

CategoryAvailable selectionsNotes
Geography Nation, region, county, TV area, postcode area, sector or full postcode; radius from a point Full postcode selections validated against the Postcode Address File
Demographics Age band or date of birth, gender, marital status, household size, children and their ages Date of birth where the respondent gave it; band where they did not
Property Tenure, property type, bedrooms, length of residence, approximate build era Self-reported on the survey call
Financial Household income band, mortgage held, existing insurance products, pension arrangements Bands only — we do not hold account numbers or balances
Stated interests Any question from the questionnaire: home improvement, travel, motoring, health cover, funeral planning, energy, TV and broadband The core reason to use survey data rather than a compiled list
Contactability Landline present, mobile present, email present, TPS status, best time to call TPS-registered records are excluded from telephone selections by default
Recency Surveyed within 12, 24 or 36 months Priced by band; the freshest records cost the most

The lifestyle questionnaire

The questions behind the data

The questionnaire is deliberately conversational and deliberately short. Agents work through a core block that establishes the household, then branch into whichever interest areas the respondent engages with. If somebody is happy to keep talking we learn a great deal; if they are not, we take the core block and thank them.

The permission statement sits at the end, once the respondent knows what they have told us. Agents read it verbatim — it is not paraphrased, and it names the channels and the kinds of company that may make contact.

Clients can buy space on the questionnaire. If you want three of your own qualifying questions asked of every respondent who matches a filter, that is a bespoke block and it is priced per completed record.

Representative core questions

  1. Do you own your home outright, own it with a mortgage, or rent it?
  2. Roughly how old is the property, and how many bedrooms does it have?
  3. How old is your boiler, and have you had any trouble with it?
  4. Which of these do you currently hold: life cover, home insurance, private medical cover?
  5. When does your TV or broadband contract come to an end?
  6. Have you ever looked into a pre-paid funeral plan?
  7. Which of these would you like a supplier to contact you about?
  8. And what is the best time of day to reach you?

Illustrative wording. The live script is longer, has branching logic, and is reviewed before each campaign.

Cleansing & screening

We will also clean the file you already have

Plenty of clients come to us with an old database and a nagging worry about it. We will process it and hand it back with a report telling you what was wrong — including the records you are no longer allowed to call.

01

Preference screening

TPS and CTPS for telephone, MPS for post, plus your own opt-out and complaint suppressions.

02

Mortality & movers

Deceased and gone-away flagging against bereavement and goneaway files, with new-address matching where available.

03

Address & format

Postcode Address File validation, address correction, name parsing and de-duplication at individual, household and address level.

04

Contact validation

Telephone line-status checks, mobile network lookup and email syntax and domain validation before you spend a penny dialling.

Ordering

What happens when you order

How do I get a count?

Send your criteria by email or through the enquiry form. We run the selection and reply with the record count in each freshness band, the price per thousand and a sample of 100 records with the sensitive fields partially masked. No charge and no obligation.

Can we test before buying the full selection?

Yes, and we recommend it. Take a random 5,000 from the selection, work it, and measure your own contact and conversion rates before you licence the rest. A random sample matters here — taking the first 5,000 by postcode will tell you about one region rather than the file.

What format will the data arrive in?

CSV by default, or XLSX, fixed-width, or straight into your system by SFTP or API. We map to your field names and layout before the first delivery so nothing needs re-keying. Files are encrypted in transit and the password is sent separately.

Do we own the data afterwards?

No — it is licensed for the purpose and period in the contract. What you do own is any record that responds to you and becomes your customer: at that point you are the controller of your own relationship with them, and normal retention rules apply.

What if records turn out to be wrong?

Report them within 30 days with the record references. Where an agreed accuracy threshold is missed we replace or credit the shortfall. The threshold is stated in the contract rather than left to argue about later.
